HighFive
Partner with a friend to achieve your goals, stay on track, and celebrate your successes together!
We all have personal goals we want to achieve alongside work and school, but obstacles often stand in our way. Imagine having a buddy to support and motivate each other throughout the journey. This project explores innovative solutions to help people take action and accomplish their personal goals through fun, engaging activities.
PROBLEM DISCOVERY

We strive to support students aged 18 to 25 who have clear goals and have identified three major trends.

TREND 01
Rising burnout due to increasing demands and expectations.
71%
Of college students experienced moderate to severe psychological distress, with burnout being a significant contributor.
“American College Health Association (2022)”

TREND 03
The desire for meaningful connections and supportive communities.
68%
Of college students reported feeling isolated, highlighting the importance of supportive social networks and communities on campus.
“The Jed Foundation (2023)”
PROBLEM STATEMENT

How might we sustain enthusiasm and commitment in individuals as they set and pursue their goals?
RESEAECH & FINDING

We came up with 7 different ideas with prototypes and tested them with 24 participants to understand how they stay motivated while working toward a goal.
We discovered 3 major insights that participants seek on their journey to goal achievement.
THE SOLUTION

An application allows people to connect their goals, keep each other on track, and celebrate together by earning stars as rewards.

TAKEAWAYS

Test, Test, and Test Again
I learned the value of iteration through rapid prototyping and testing. By putting my ideas in front of real users, I was able to uncover key insights, identify fundamental needs, and make continuous adjustments.

TREND 02
Increased emphasis on personal growth and self-improvement.
74%
Of first-year college students are actively seeking opportunities to improve themselves through extracurricular activities and courses focused on self-improvement.
“Higher Education Research Institute (2023)”

FINDING 03
Gamification enhances engagement.
A reward system can keep people engaged and maintain their momentum.

What can be improved?
A DEALBREAKER SYSTEM
Participants also mentioned the need for 'dealbreakers' like being sick or dealing with emergencies.
DEVELOPER VIEWPOINT
"The main data structure includes users, teams, goals, dates, and notifications, stored in a relational database like MySQL or Cassandra. For the reward system, separate tables will track mission progress and project stars. A worker will monitor mission progress, adding a star to the corresponding table when a mission is completed."
Database Structure and Reward System
I interviewed a developer about the feasibility of this product and received the following feedback.
This product is doable!
